“Attitudes are the Real Disability”

SAF Disability Diversity Training

Have you ever questioned whether or not you should open the door for someone ahead of you who is in a wheelchair? Or have felt uncomfortable sitting next to someone with an apparent physical disability? These experiences are very common and ones that many of us have worked through. The need for people to be educated about people living with disabilities is ever growing in our society. At some point in all of our lives, we will be confronted with a situation where we will have to serve the needs of someone who has a disability. Sadly, stereotypes and prejudice impact the way in which we interact with and serve others who have disabilities. Discrimination and negative attitudes toward people with disabilities comes from a general lack of information and misunderstanding about who these people are and the best practices for serving their unique needs as individuals.

To educate more people in organizations all over the world, Stand Among Friends has developed a program called, “Attitudes are the Real Disability”. Our trained professionals, who are experts in the fields of Disability Services and Multicultural Awareness, offer this disability sensitivity program. These half-day or full-day training experiences educate people about appropriate attitudes and interactions needed when serving people with disabilities. The training also takes participants further into understanding the needs of people with disabilities through hands-on learning experiences and role-play activities. The program covers visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical disabilities, hidden disabilities, and cognitive disabilities. At the end of the session, participants will be able to identify their own bias toward people with disabilities and develop an action plan for better serving this community of people. Through awareness, knowledge and skill building, our Disability Training Experts will develop greater professional cultural competence in participants for serving the needs of the disability community. The Stand Among Friends “Attitudes are the Real Disability” program has been hugely successful in many organizations. The program has even been presented at several Fortune 500 companies, educational institutions, and local & state governments.

By requesting this training workshop, you will be creating a more inclusive environment for your disabled community members and strengthening your organization. Take a step outside of your comfort zone and book this training program for your organization. We can promise that this program will change someone’s life.
